CONOPS and SORA

Germany

Regulatory waivers for drone flights under EASA rules.

Since 2021, under the EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) regulations, I have successfully worked on and obtained regulatory waivers for UAS flights in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), North Rhein Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen), Saxony-Anhalt (Saxen Anhalt), and Baden-Württemberg.

My contributions

The waivers were approved based on my work developing ConOps and JARUS SORA, as well as all the supporting documents such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), emergency procedures, training programs, and more.

The image to the right shows one of the urban areas of operations in which we received a waiver. The image is blurred and warped so as to preserve confidentiality

EASA and FAA Approaches

The approach to risk management under EASA rules in Europe is slightly different from that of the FAA in the US. However, at the end of the day, everyone is looking for the same thing – enabling more and useful flights while maintaining or increasing safety.
